Forage analysis

Forage analysis: from PDF to feed ration in seconds

A forage analysis shows what your hay or haylage actually contains. The values vary a lot between harvests and farms, so the analysis is the basis of a ration that adds up. Mitt Stall reads the analysis for you and uses it straight away in the calculation.

Feeding plans in Mitt Stall calculated on the stable’s forage analysis

What is in a forage analysis?

A forage analysis for horses gives, among other things, these values. They are the ones Mitt Stall reads.

  • Dry matter (DM): how much of the forage is not water
  • Energy: metabolizable energy in MJ per kilo of dry matter
  • Crude protein and digestible crude protein
  • NDF: the fiber content
  • Sugar (water-soluble carbohydrates): important for horses with metabolic problems
  • Minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and magnesium

Mitt Stall reads the analysis for you

Upload the analysis as a PDF. Mitt Stall reads the nutrient values with AI and saves them with the analysis, so you do not have to copy numbers or risk typos. The values can be changed afterwards, and without a PDF you enter them by hand.

From analysis to feed ration

The saved analysis is used in the ration for the horses that eat that forage. When you switch to a new batch, add its analysis and the ration is calculated on the new values.

How to take a good sample

Forage analyses are done by feed laboratories. Sample several bales from the batch so the sample represents the whole batch, send it in and keep the result as a PDF. Analyze every new batch, because the nutrient values can differ a lot between harvests.
